Edmund closing in on world’s tennis elite

EAST YORKSHIRE’S Kyle Edmund has moved closer to tennis’s top 100 players after winning a title in New York.

The Beverley ace beat Bjorn Fratangelo in straight sets to win the Binghamton Challenger event.

Edmund, the British number four, won 6-2 6-3 in just over an hour to collect his second Challenger trophy of the year.

Breaking twice in the opening set, he closed out the match in some style in the second – losing just four points on his serve.

It is a victory that sees him rise ten places to 103 in the world rankings.

Edmund said: “I hadn’t played a lot of matches recently because I was injured, so it was more trying to get matches under my belt before a long summer tour.

“We’ve been working on my game on court and each day it’s getting better and better. I played great and I’m happy I won it.”
